An issue has recently been discovered in Arista EOS where the incorrect use of EOS's AAA API’s by the OpenConfig and TerminAttr agents could result in unrestricted access to the device for local users with nopassword configuration.
- CVE-2021-28500 has been assigned by [email protected] to track the vulnerability
- For local users whose authentication is with nopassword, enforce a password or remove the user. Ensure that the following configuration does not exist where a local user is configured with nopassword.
- To mitigate CVE-2021-28500 with the continued use of the affected agents, a hotfix employing a proxy service can be deployed. The proxy is configured behind the gNMI/gNOI or RESTCONF server. The hotfix can be downloaded at https://www.arista.com/en/support/advisories-notices/sa-download/?sa=71-SecurityAdvisory0071Hotfix.i386.swix for 32 bit systems and https://www.arista.com/en/support/advisories-notices/sa-download/?sa=71-SecurityAdvisory0071Hotfix.x86_64.swix for 64 bit systems.
