That is unacceptable since a server by specification is allowed to skip the client certificate check on resume, and may instead use the old identity which was established by the previous certificate (or no certificate). libcurl supports by default the use of TLS session id/ticket to resume previous TLS sessions to speed up subsequent TLS handshakes. They are used when for any reason an existing TLS connection couldn't be kept alive to make the next handshake faster. This flaw is a regression and identical to CVE-2016-5419 reported on August 3rd 2016, but affecting a different version range.","state":"PUBLIC","assigner":"secalert@redhat.com","published_at":"2018-07-16 13:29:00","updated_at":"2019-10-09 23:29:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-295"],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://curl.haxx.se/docs/adv_20170419.html","name":"https://curl.haxx.se/docs/adv_20170419.html","refsource":"CONFIRM","tags":["Vendor Advisory"],"title":"curl - TLS session resumption client cert bypass","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"https://security.gentoo.org/glsa/201709-14","name":"GLSA-201709-14","refsource":"GENTOO","tags":["Third Party Advisory"],"title":"cURL: Multiple vulnerabilities (GLSA 201709-14) — Gentoo Security","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1038341","name":"1038341","refsource":"SECTRACK","tags":["Third Party Advisory","VDB Entry"],"title":"cURL/libcurl TLS Session Resumption Client Certificate Bug Lets Remote Users Bypass Security Restrictions on the Target System - SecurityTracker","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2017-7468","name":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2017-7468","refsource":"CONFIRM","tags":["Issue Tracking","Third Party Advisory"],"title":"1443381 – (CVE-2017-7468) CVE-2017-7468 curl: TLS session resumption client cert bypass","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/97962","name":"97962","refsource":"BID","tags":["Third Party Advisory","VDB Entry"],"title":"cURL/libcURL CVE-2017-7468 Remote Security Bypass Vulnerability","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2017-7468","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2017-7468","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2017","cve_id":"7468","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"7.53.1","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"haxx","cpe5":"libcurl","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[{"cve":"CVE-2017-7468","qid":"500118","title":"Alpine Linux Security Update for curl"},{"cve":"CVE-2017-7468","qid":"503773","title":"Alpine Linux Security Update for curl"},{"cve":"CVE-2017-7468","qid":"710401","title":"Gentoo Linux cURL Multiple Vulnerabilities (GLSA 201709-14)"}]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"CVE_data_meta":{"ASSIGNER":"secalert@redhat.com","ID":"CVE-2017-7468","STATE":"PUBLIC"},"affects":{"vendor":{"vendor_data":[{"product":{"product_data":[{"product_name":"curl","version":{"version_data":[{"version_value":"curl 7.54.0"}]}}]},"vendor_name":"[UNKNOWN]"}]}},"data_format":"MITRE","data_type":"CVE","data_version":"4.0","description":{"description_data":[{"lang":"eng","value":"In curl and libcurl 7.52.0 to and including 7.53.1, libcurl would attempt to resume a TLS session even if the client certificate had changed.
