The vulnerability is due to node-jose following the JSON Web Signature (JWS) standard for JSON Web Tokens (JWTs). This standard specifies that a JSON Web Key (JWK) representing a public key can be embedded within the header of a JWS. This public key is then trusted for verification. An attacker could exploit this by forging valid JWS objects by removing the original signature, adding a new public key to the header, and then signing the object using the (attacker-owned) private key associated with the public key embedded in that JWS header.","state":"PUBLIC","assigner":"psirt@cisco.com","published_at":"2018-01-04 06:29:00","updated_at":"2020-09-04 16:58:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-347"],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/zi0Black/POC-CVE-2018-0114","name":"https://github.com/zi0Black/POC-CVE-2018-0114","refsource":"MISC","tags":["Exploit","Third Party Advisory"],"title":"GitHub - zi0Black/POC-CVE-2018-0114: This repository contains the POC of an exploit for node-jose < 0.11.0","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/viewAlert.x?alertId=56326","name":"https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/viewAlert.x?alertId=56326","refsource":"CONFIRM","tags":["Patch","Vendor Advisory"],"title":"","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/102445","name":"102445","refsource":"BID","tags":["Third Party Advisory","VDB Entry"],"title":"Malformed Request","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/cisco/node-jose/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md","name":"https://github.com/cisco/node-jose/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md","refsource":"CONFIRM","tags":["Release Notes","Third Party Advisory"],"title":"node-jose/CHANGELOG.md at master · cisco/node-jose · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/44324/","name":"44324","refsource":"EXPLOIT-DB","tags":["Third Party Advisory","VDB Entry"],"title":"Cisco node-jos < 0.11.0 - Re-sign Tokens - Multiple webapps Exploit","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2018-0114","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2018-0114","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2018","cve_id":"114","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"cisco","cpe5":"node-jose","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"},{"cve_year":"2018","cve_id":"114","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"1","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"cisco","cpe5":"node-jose","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"CVE_data_meta":{"ASSIGNER":"psirt@cisco.com","ID":"CVE-2018-0114","STATE":"PUBLIC"},"affects":{"vendor":{"vendor_data":[{"product":{"product_data":[{"product_name":"Node-jose Library","version":{"version_data":[{"version_value":"Node-jose Library"}]}}]},"vendor_name":"n/a"}]}},"data_format":"MITRE","data_type":"CVE","data_version":"4.0","description":{"description_data":[{"lang":"eng","value":"A vulnerability in the Cisco node-jose open source library before 0.11.0 could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to re-sign tokens using a key that is embedded within the token.
