The get() method is supposed to only decrypt messages when you explicitly ask it to, but there is a bug where it's decrypting any message that it can. This means that it is returning the decrypted content of private messages, which a malicious peer could use to get access to private data. This only affects peers running SSB-DB@20.0.0 who also have private messages, and is only known to be exploitable if you're also running SSB-OOO (default in SSB-Server), which exposes a thin wrapper around get() to anonymous peers. This is fixed in version 20.0.1. Note that users of SSB-Server verion 16.0.0 should upgrade to 16.0.1 to get the fixed version of SSB-DB.","state":"PUBLIC","assigner":"security-advisories@github.com","published_at":"2020-06-11 22:15:00","updated_at":"2020-06-17 17:28:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-200"],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/ssbc/ssb-db/commit/43334d0871c9cc6220e0f6d6338499060f7761d4","name":"https://github.com/ssbc/ssb-db/commit/43334d0871c9cc6220e0f6d6338499060f7761d4","refsource":"MISC","tags":["Patch","Third Party Advisory"],"title":"Merge pull request from GHSA-mpgr-2cx9-327h · ssbc/ssb-db@43334d0 · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"https://github.com/ssbc/ssb-db/security/advisories/GHSA-mpgr-2cx9-327h","name":"https://github.com/ssbc/ssb-db/security/advisories/GHSA-mpgr-2cx9-327h","refsource":"CONFIRM","tags":["Third Party Advisory"],"title":"SSB-DB#get() is decrypting messages by default · Advisory · ssbc/ssb-db · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2020-4045","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2020-4045","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2020","cve_id":"4045","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"scuttlebutt","cpe5":"ssb-db","cpe6":"20.0.0","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"},{"cve_year":"2020","cve_id":"4045","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"1","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"scuttlebutt","cpe5":"ssb-db","cpe6":"20.0.0","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[{"cve":"CVE-2020-4045","qid":"983867","title":"Nodejs (npm) Security Update for ssb-db (GHSA-mpgr-2cx9-327h)"}]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"CVE_data_meta":{"ASSIGNER":"security-advisories@github.com","ID":"CVE-2020-4045","STATE":"PUBLIC","TITLE":"Information disclosure in SSB-DB"},"affects":{"vendor":{"vendor_data":[{"product":{"product_data":[{"product_name":"SSB-DB","version":{"version_data":[{"version_value":"= 20.0.0"}]}}]},"vendor_name":"ssbc"}]}},"data_format":"MITRE","data_type":"CVE","data_version":"4.0","description":{"description_data":[{"lang":"eng","value":"SSB-DB version 20.0.0 has an information disclosure vulnerability.
