In versions prior to 1.10.1 cosign can report a false positive if any attestation exists. `cosign verify-attestation` used with the `--type` flag will report a false positive verification when there is at least one attestation with a valid signature and there are NO attestations of the type being verified (--type defaults to \"custom\"). This can happen when signing with a standard keypair and with \"keyless\" signing with Fulcio. This vulnerability can be reproduced with the `distroless.dev/static@sha256:dd7614b5a12bc4d617b223c588b4e0c833402b8f4991fb5702ea83afad1986e2` image. This image has a `vuln` attestation but not an `spdx` attestation. However, if you run `cosign verify-attestation --type=spdx` on this image, it incorrectly succeeds. This issue has been addressed in version 1.10.1 of cosign. Users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this issue.","state":"PUBLIC","assigner":"security-advisories@github.com","published_at":"2022-08-04 19:15:00","updated_at":"2022-08-10 18:38:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-347"],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/sigstore/cosign/commit/c5fda01a8ff33ca981f45a9f13e7fb6bd2080b94","name":"https://github.com/sigstore/cosign/commit/c5fda01a8ff33ca981f45a9f13e7fb6bd2080b94","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Merge pull request from GHSA-vjxv-45g9-9296 · sigstore/cosign@c5fda01 · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://github.com/sigstore/cosign/security/advisories/GHSA-vjxv-45g9-9296","name":"https://github.com/sigstore/cosign/security/advisories/GHSA-vjxv-45g9-9296","refsource":"CONFIRM","tags":[],"title":"`cosign verify-attestaton --type` can report a false positive if any attestation exists · Advisory · sigstore/cosign · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2022-35929","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-35929","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2022","cve_id":"35929","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"sigstore","cpe5":"cosign","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[{"cve":"CVE-2022-35929","qid":"502470","title":"Alpine Linux Security Update for cosign"},{"cve":"CVE-2022-35929","qid":"504650","title":"Alpine Linux Security Update for cosign"},{"cve":"CVE-2022-35929","qid":"752500","title":"SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for cosign (SUSE-SU-2022:2877-1)"}]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"CVE_data_meta":{"ASSIGNER":"security-advisories@github.com","ID":"CVE-2022-35929","STATE":"PUBLIC","TITLE":"False positive signature verification in cosign"},"affects":{"vendor":{"vendor_data":[{"product":{"product_data":[{"product_name":"cosign","version":{"version_data":[{"version_value":"< 1.10.1"}]}}]},"vendor_name":"sigstore"}]}},"data_format":"MITRE","data_type":"CVE","data_version":"4.0","description":{"description_data":[{"lang":"eng","value":"cosign is a container signing and verification utility.
