In versions of Kyverno prior to 1.10.0, resources which have the `deletionTimestamp` field defined can bypass validate, generate, or mutate-existing policies, even in cases where the `validationFailureAction` field is set to `Enforce`. This situation occurs as resources pending deletion were being consciously exempted by Kyverno, as a way to reduce processing load as policies are typically not applied to objects which are being deleted. However, this could potentially result in allowing a malicious user to leverage the Kubernetes finalizers feature by setting a finalizer which causes the Kubernetes API server to set the `deletionTimestamp` and then not completing the delete operation as a way to explicitly to bypass a Kyverno policy. Note that this is not applicable to Kubernetes Pods but, as an example, a Kubernetes Service resource can be manipulated using an indefinite finalizer to bypass policies. This is resolved in Kyverno 1.10.0. There is no known workaround.","state":"PUBLIC","assigner":"security-advisories@github.com","published_at":"2023-06-01 17:15:00","updated_at":"2023-06-09 15:18:00"},"problem_types":["NVD-CWE-noinfo"],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/kyverno/kyverno/security/advisories/GHSA-hq4m-4948-64cc","name":"https://github.com/kyverno/kyverno/security/advisories/GHSA-hq4m-4948-64cc","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"A resource with a deletionTimestamp may allow policy circumvention · Advisory · kyverno/kyverno · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://github.com/kyverno/kyverno/releases/tag/v1.10.0","name":"https://github.com/kyverno/kyverno/releases/tag/v1.10.0","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Release v1.10.0 · kyverno/kyverno · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2023-34091","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-34091","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2023","cve_id":"34091","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"nirmata","cpe5":"kyverno","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"go","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"data_version":"4.0","data_type":"CVE","data_format":"MITRE","CVE_data_meta":{"ID":"CVE-2023-34091","ASSIGNER":"security-advisories@github.com","STATE":"PUBLIC"},"description":{"description_data":[{"lang":"eng","value":"Kyverno is a policy engine designed for Kubernetes.
