In order to exploit the potential for command injection, an attacker would need to be successful in (1) establishing a malicious resource and (2) redirecting users to utilize the resource. The attacker could set up a malicious, publicly accessible server which responds to the SSO URL with an attack payload. If the attacker then tricked a user into visiting the maliciously crafted connection URL, the user’s local machine would render the malicious payload, leading to a remote code execution. This attack scenario can be mitigated through URL whitelisting as well as common anti-phishing resources. Version 1.6.21 contains a patch for this issue.","state":"PUBLIC","assigner":"security-advisories@github.com","published_at":"2023-06-08 21:15:00","updated_at":"2023-06-20 16:18:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-77"],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs/security/advisories/GHSA-h53w-7qw7-vh5c","name":"https://github.com/snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs/security/advisories/GHSA-h53w-7qw7-vh5c","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Snowflake NodeJS Driver Security Advisory · Advisory · snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://community.snowflake.com/s/article/Node-js-Driver-Release-Notes","name":"https://community.snowflake.com/s/article/Node-js-Driver-Release-Notes","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Snowflake Community","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"200"},{"url":"https://github.com/snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs/commit/0c9622ae12cd7d627df404b73a783b4a5f60728a","name":"https://github.com/snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs/commit/0c9622ae12cd7d627df404b73a783b4a5f60728a","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Replace eval() for parsing JSON strings (#465) · snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs@0c9622a · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://github.com/snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs/pull/465","name":"https://github.com/snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs/pull/465","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Replace eval() for parsing JSON strings by sfc-gh-ext-simba-lf · Pull Request #465 · snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-nodejs · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2023-34232","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-34232","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2023","cve_id":"34232","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"snowflake","cpe5":"snowflake_connector","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"node.js","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"data_version":"4.0","data_type":"CVE","data_format":"MITRE","CVE_data_meta":{"ID":"CVE-2023-34232","ASSIGNER":"security-advisories@github.com","STATE":"PUBLIC"},"description":{"description_data":[{"lang":"eng","value":"snowflake-connector-nodejs, a NodeJS driver for Snowflake, is vulnerable to command injection via single sign on (SSO) browser URL authentication in versions prior to 1.6.21.
