Prior to version 32.5.1, the software has a possible command injection vulnerability in the docker fetch process as it allows to append malicious commands in the `docker_reference` parameter.\n\nIn the function `scanpipe/pipes/fetch.py:fetch_docker_image` the parameter `docker_reference` is user controllable. The `docker_reference` variable is then passed to the vulnerable function `get_docker_image_platform`. However, the `get_docker_image_plaform` function constructs a shell command with the passed `docker_reference`. The `pipes.run_command` then executes the shell command without any prior sanitization, making the function vulnerable to command injections. A malicious user who is able to create or add inputs to a project can inject commands. Although the command injections are blind and the user will not receive direct feedback without logs, it is still possible to cause damage to the server/container. The vulnerability appears for example if a malicious user adds a semicolon after the input of `docker://;`, it would allow appending malicious commands.\n\nVersion 32.5.1 contains a patch for this issue. The `docker_reference` input should be sanitized to avoid command injections and, as a workaround, one may avoid creating commands with user controlled input directly.","state":"PUBLIC","assigner":"security-advisories@github.com","published_at":"2023-08-07 21:15:00","updated_at":"2023-08-11 18:12:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-77"],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/security/advisories/GHSA-2ggp-cmvm-f62f","name":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/security/advisories/GHSA-2ggp-cmvm-f62f","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Command injection in docker image fetch process · Advisory · nexB/scancode.io · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/releases/tag/v32.5.1","name":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/releases/tag/v32.5.1","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Release v32.5.1 (Security Release) · nexB/scancode.io · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/commit/07ec0de1964b14bf085a1c9a27ece2b61ab6105c","name":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/commit/07ec0de1964b14bf085a1c9a27ece2b61ab6105c","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"Merge pull request from GHSA-2ggp-cmvm-f62f · nexB/scancode.io@07ec0de · GitHub","mime":"text/html","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/blob/main/scanpipe/pipes/fetch.py#L185","name":"https://github.com/nexB/scancode.io/blob/main/scanpipe/pipes/fetch.py#L185","refsource":"MISC","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"text/plain","httpstatus":"200","archivestatus":"404"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2023-39523","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-39523","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2023","cve_id":"39523","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"nexb","cpe5":"scancode.io","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[{"cve":"CVE-2023-39523","qid":"994802","title":"Python (Pip) Security Update for scancodeio (GHSA-2ggp-cmvm-f62f)"}]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"data_version":"4.0","data_type":"CVE","data_format":"MITRE","CVE_data_meta":{"ID":"CVE-2023-39523","ASSIGNER":"security-advisories@github.com","STATE":"PUBLIC"},"description":{"description_data":[{"lang":"eng","value":"ScanCode.io is a server to script and automate software composition analysis with ScanPipe pipelines.
