In Squid versions prior to 7.2, a failure to redact HTTP authentication credentials in error handling allows information disclosure. The vulnerability allows a script to bypass browser security protections and learn the credentials a trusted client uses to authenticate. This potentially allows a remote client to identify security tokens or credentials used internally by a web application using Squid for backend load balancing. These attacks do not require Squid to be configured with HTTP authentication. The vulnerability is fixed in version 7.2. As a workaround, disable debug information in administrator mailto links generated by Squid by configuring squid.conf with email_err_data off.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2025-10-17 17:15:49","updated_at":"2026-10-19 16:10:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-209","CWE-550","CWE-209 CWE-209: Generation of Error Message Containing Sensitive Information","CWE-550 CWE-550: Server-generated Error Message Containing Sensitive Information"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"nvd@nist.gov","type":"Primary","score":"7.5","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","baseScore":7.5,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"NONE","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"10","severity":"CRITICAL","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","baseScore":10,"baseSeverity":"CRITICAL","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"CHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"HIGH","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"10","severity":"CRITICAL","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"NONE","baseScore":10,"baseSeverity":"CRITICAL","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"CHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/security/advisories/GHSA-c8cc-phh7-xmxr","name":"https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/security/advisories/GHSA-c8cc-phh7-xmxr","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":["Mitigation","Third Party Advisory"],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2025/11/05/6","name":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2025/11/05/6","refsource":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/commit/0951a0681011dfca3d78c84fd7f1e19c78a4443f","name":"https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/commit/0951a0681011dfca3d78c84fd7f1e19c78a4443f","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":["Patch"],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2025-62168","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2025-62168","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"squid-cache","product":"squid","version":"affected < 7.2","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2025","cve_id":"62168","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"squid-cache","cpe5":"squid","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2025","cve_id":"62168","cve":"CVE-2025-62168","epss":"0.633600000","percentile":"0.992040000","score_date":"2026-10-19","updated_at":"2026-10-20 00:13:49"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"content":{"id":"CVE-2025-62168","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"yes"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","timestamp":"2025-10-18T03:55:46.500076Z","version":"2.0.3"},"type":"ssvc"}}],"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2026-02-26T16:57:24.141Z","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP"},"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"},{"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2025-11-05T17:04:22.477Z","orgId":"af854a3a-2127-422b-91ae-364da2661108","shortName":"CVE"},"references":[{"url":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2025/11/05/6"}],"title":"CVE Program Container"}],"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"squid","vendor":"squid-cache","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 7.2"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Squid is a caching proxy for the Web.
