From 3.0.5 until 3.0.17, the PCRE2 implementation of @rxGlobal in src/utils/regex.cc converts pcre2_match match-limit errors into an ordinary no-match result instead of propagating a non-OK RegexResult. When attacker-controlled input exhausts SecPcreMatchLimit, rules that rely on MSC_PCRE_LIMITS_EXCEEDED or its TX compatibility indicator do not run, so a request that should be rejected can pass through the WAF. The issue affects PCRE2 deployments that use @rxGlobal with a limit-exhaustible expression and a compensating rule; it is not a universal WAF bypass. This issue is fixed in version 3.0.17.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-11-05 16:17:24","updated_at":"2026-11-05 16:17:24"},"problem_types":["CWE-253","CWE-253 CWE-253: Incorrect Check of Function Return Value"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"5.8","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N","baseScore":5.8,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"CHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"5.8","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"NONE","baseScore":5.8,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"CHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/owasp-modsecurity/ModSecurity/releases/tag/v3.0.17","name":"https://github.com/owasp-modsecurity/ModSecurity/releases/tag/v3.0.17","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/owasp-modsecurity/ModSecurity/security/advisories/GHSA-5m93-4h75-3p2w","name":"https://github.com/owasp-modsecurity/ModSecurity/security/advisories/GHSA-5m93-4h75-3p2w","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/owasp-modsecurity/ModSecurity/commit/d92bdc3b2183824ba3c582154b7385ee8349ea7e","name":"https://github.com/owasp-modsecurity/ModSecurity/commit/d92bdc3b2183824ba3c582154b7385ee8349ea7e","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-103932","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-103932","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"owasp-modsecurity","product":"ModSecurity","version":"affected >= 3.0.5, < 3.0.17","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"ModSecurity","vendor":"owasp-modsecurity","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":">= 3.0.5, < 3.0.17"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"ModSecurity is an open source, cross platform web application firewall (WAF) engine for Apache, IIS and Nginx.
