In versions 8.11.0 and 8.11.1, its experimental WebSocket client, which is enabled by default when HTTP/2 is allowed, mishandles a failed WebSocket handshake over HTTP/2: the request is already marked completed, so the abort becomes a no-op and the underlying HTTP/2 stream is left open with no error listener. When a malicious server then destroys the connection, the orphaned stream emits an unhandled error and the Node.js process exits. A remote, unauthenticated server can therefore crash any client that opens a WebSocket to it over HTTP/2, resulting in a denial of service. The issue is fixed in undici 8.11.2, and users should upgrade to 8.11.2 or later. As a workaround, set allowH2 to false to disable HTTP/2 for WebSocket connections, or avoid opening WebSocket connections to untrusted servers.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"openjs","published_at":"2026-10-15 09:17:16","updated_at":"2026-10-15 20:38:04"},"problem_types":["CWE-248","CWE-754","CWE-248 CWE-248: Uncaught Exception","CWE-754 CWE-754: Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","type":"Secondary","score":"7.5","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","baseScore":7.5,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"NONE","availabilityImpact":"HIGH"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"CVSS","score":"7.5","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","data":{"baseScore":7.5,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","name":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/nodejs/undici/security/advisories/GHSA-qq8j-7v2v-3rwp","name":"https://github.com/nodejs/undici/security/advisories/GHSA-qq8j-7v2v-3rwp","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-109855","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-109855","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"undici","product":"undici","version":"affected 8.11.0 8.11.2 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"undici","product":"undici","version":"unaffected 8.11.2 semver","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[{"source":"CNA","value":"kjsik11","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"mcollina","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"jasnell","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"metcoder95","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"UlisesGascon","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"ronag","lang":"en"}],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"109855","cve":"CVE-2026-109855","epss":"0.002780000","percentile":"0.189240000","score_date":"2026-10-15","updated_at":"2026-10-16 00:06:12"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"content":{"id":"CVE-2026-109855","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"yes"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","timestamp":"2026-10-15T14:21:59.498708Z","version":"2.0.3"},"type":"ssvc"}}],"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2026-10-15T14:22:28.644Z","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP"},"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"}],"cna":{"affected":[{"defaultStatus":"unaffected","packageURL":"pkg:npm/undici","product":"undici","vendor":"undici","versions":[{"lessThan":"8.11.2","status":"affected","version":"8.11.0","versionType":"semver"},{"status":"unaffected","version":"8.11.2","versionType":"semver"}]}],"credits":[{"lang":"en","type":"reporter","value":"kjsik11"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation developer","value":"mcollina"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation reviewer","value":"jasnell"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation reviewer","value":"metcoder95"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation verifier","value":"UlisesGascon"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation reviewer","value":"ronag"}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","supportingMedia":[{"base64":false,"type":"text/html","value":"undici is an HTTP client library for Node.js.
