In versions before 2.4.8, from 3.0.0 through 3.1.8, and from 4.0.0 through 4.2.2, when serialize(), normalize(), or resolve() are called with the non-default option reference set to suffix on a reference that has no authority, the emitted relative reference can contain a bare colon in its first path segment without escaping it, even though RFC 3986 forbids that because it makes the string reparse as an absolute URI with a scheme. An application that serializes or normalizes a relative reference with the suffix option and then treats the result as a URI can turn inert input into a live javascript, data, or vbscript URL, a cross-site scripting vector, and the equal() comparison can conflate a scheme-bearing reference with a relative one. Exposure is limited to applications using the non-default suffix reference option. The issue is fixed in fast-uri 2.4.8, 3.1.9, and 4.2.3, and users should upgrade to one of these versions or later. As a workaround, avoid the suffix reference option on untrusted input, or percent-encode a colon in the first path segment of the result before treating it as a URI.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"openjs","published_at":"2026-10-20 07:17:08","updated_at":"2026-10-20 20:17:16"},"problem_types":["CWE-41","CWE-116","CWE-41 CWE-41: Improper Resolution of Path Equivalence","CWE-116 CWE-116: Improper Encoding or Escaping of Output"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","type":"Secondary","score":"3.7","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","baseScore":3.7,"baseSeverity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"CVSS","score":"3.7","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"baseScore":3.7,"baseSeverity":"LOW","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","name":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/fastify/fast-uri/security/advisories/GHSA-333x-w4r6-6crp","name":"https://github.com/fastify/fast-uri/security/advisories/GHSA-333x-w4r6-6crp","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-110725","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-110725","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"fast-uri","product":"fast-uri","version":"affected 2.4.8 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"fast-uri","product":"fast-uri","version":"unaffected 2.4.8 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"fast-uri","product":"fast-uri","version":"affected 3.0.0 3.1.9 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"fast-uri","product":"fast-uri","version":"unaffected 3.1.9 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"fast-uri","product":"fast-uri","version":"affected 4.0.0 4.2.3 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"fast-uri","product":"fast-uri","version":"unaffected 4.2.3 semver","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[{"source":"CNA","value":"UlisesGascon","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"mcollina","lang":"en"}],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"110725","cve":"CVE-2026-110725","epss":"0.002540000","percentile":"0.159390000","score_date":"2026-10-20","updated_at":"2026-10-21 00:14:27"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"content":{"id":"CVE-2026-110725","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","timestamp":"2026-10-20T19:14:33.067016Z","version":"2.0.3"},"type":"ssvc"}}],"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2026-10-20T19:14:41.685Z","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP"},"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"}],"cna":{"affected":[{"defaultStatus":"unaffected","packageURL":"pkg:npm/fast-uri","product":"fast-uri","vendor":"fast-uri","versions":[{"lessThan":"2.4.8","status":"affected","version":"0","versionType":"semver"},{"status":"unaffected","version":"2.4.8","versionType":"semver"},{"lessThan":"3.1.9","status":"affected","version":"3.0.0","versionType":"semver"},{"status":"unaffected","version":"3.1.9","versionType":"semver"},{"lessThan":"4.2.3","status":"affected","version":"4.0.0","versionType":"semver"},{"status":"unaffected","version":"4.2.3","versionType":"semver"}]}],"credits":[{"lang":"en","type":"finder","value":"UlisesGascon"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation reviewer","value":"mcollina"}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","supportingMedia":[{"base64":false,"type":"text/html","value":"fast-uri is a dependency-free RFC 3986 URI parser and serializer for Node.js.
