In versions from 9.0.0 through 9.3.5, the use() function joined a path-scoped middleware's mount path to the plugin scope prefix in a way that could diverge from the path Fastify's router serves, most often when the scope prefix ended in a slash, and also for array mount paths and for mount paths written without a leading slash. When the two paths disagreed, the middleware was silently skipped while the route handler still ran, so path-scoped middleware such as authentication, authorization, or rate limiting could be bypassed by a single unauthenticated request. The issue is fixed in @fastify/middie 9.3.6, and users should upgrade to 9.3.6 or later. As a workaround, enforce authorization in a Fastify hook such as preHandler that runs after the router has resolved the request.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"openjs","published_at":"2026-10-20 21:17:17","updated_at":"2026-10-20 21:17:17"},"problem_types":["CWE-436","CWE-436 CWE-436: Interpretation Conflict"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","type":"Secondary","score":"9.1","severity":"CRITICAL","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","baseScore":9.1,"baseSeverity":"CRITICAL","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"HIGH","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"CVSS","score":"9.1","severity":"CRITICAL","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","data":{"baseScore":9.1,"baseSeverity":"CRITICAL","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","name":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/fastify/middie/security/advisories/GHSA-5p92-8765-9fv8","name":"https://github.com/fastify/middie/security/advisories/GHSA-5p92-8765-9fv8","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-112712","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-112712","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"@fastify/middie","product":"@fastify/middie","version":"affected 9.0.0 9.3.6 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"@fastify/middie","product":"@fastify/middie","version":"unaffected 9.3.6 semver","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[{"source":"CNA","value":"zachariah-mithani","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"mcollina","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"UlisesGascon","lang":"en"}],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"defaultStatus":"unaffected","packageURL":"pkg:npm/@fastify/middie","product":"@fastify/middie","vendor":"@fastify/middie","versions":[{"lessThan":"9.3.6","status":"affected","version":"9.0.0","versionType":"semver"},{"status":"unaffected","version":"9.3.6","versionType":"semver"}]}],"credits":[{"lang":"en","type":"reporter","value":"zachariah-mithani"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation developer","value":"mcollina"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation developer","value":"UlisesGascon"}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","supportingMedia":[{"base64":false,"type":"text/html","value":"@fastify/middie is the Express-style middleware engine for Fastify.
