Prior to 1.11.2, ws_read_frame() unmasked a WebSocket payload by iterating wsh->datalen, which included frame headers, while indexing from the payload pointer. A masked frame filling the 64 KiB receive buffer could therefore XOR up to 14 bytes beyond the buffer, and the exact-capacity case also wrote a terminating NUL one byte out of bounds. The flaw is reachable before authentication when mod_xml_rpc and its opt-in WebSocket endpoint are enabled, while both features are disabled in the stock configuration. The writes remain within the same connection handle's adjacent outbound buffer, so neither a process crash nor cross-session disclosure has been demonstrated. This issue is fixed in version 1.11.2.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-11-05 20:17:45","updated_at":"2026-11-05 22:38:13"},"problem_types":["CWE-193","CWE-787","CWE-193 CWE-193: Off-by-one Error","CWE-787 CWE-787: Out-of-bounds Write"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"5.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","baseScore":5.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"5.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"NONE","baseScore":5.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/signalwire/freeswitch/security/advisories/GHSA-4cg6-rvh2-cw74","name":"https://github.com/signalwire/freeswitch/security/advisories/GHSA-4cg6-rvh2-cw74","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/signalwire/freeswitch/releases/tag/v1.11.2","name":"https://github.com/signalwire/freeswitch/releases/tag/v1.11.2","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/signalwire/freeswitch/commit/fb9f37b9c7869630ee52a3ae87399fbbf99ad74d","name":"https://github.com/signalwire/freeswitch/commit/fb9f37b9c7869630ee52a3ae87399fbbf99ad74d","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-116781","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-116781","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"signalwire","product":"freeswitch","version":"affected < 1.11.2","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"116781","cve":"CVE-2026-116781","epss":"0.002650000","percentile":"0.184710000","score_date":"2026-11-06","updated_at":"2026-11-07 00:05:37"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"freeswitch","vendor":"signalwire","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 1.11.2"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"FreeSWITCH is a Software Defined Telecom Stack enabling the digital transformation from proprietary telecom switches to a software implementation that runs on any commodity hardware.
