Prior to versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.0, and 41.0.0-beta.8, apps that use the powerMonitor module may be vulnerable to a use-after-free. After the native PowerMonitor object is garbage-collected, the associated OS-level resources (a message window on Windows, a shutdown handler on macOS) retain dangling references. A subsequent session-change event (Windows) or system shutdown (macOS) dereferences freed memory, which may lead to a crash or memory corruption. All apps that access powerMonitor events (suspend, resume, lock-screen, etc.) are potentially affected. The issue is not directly renderer-controllable. This issue has been patched in versions 38.8.6, 39.8.1, 40.8.0, and 41.0.0-beta.8.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-04-04 00:16:17","updated_at":"2026-04-07 13:20:55"},"problem_types":["CWE-416","CWE-416 CWE-416: Use After Free"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"7","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","baseScore":7,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","attackVector":"LOCAL","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"HIGH","availabilityImpact":"HIGH"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"7","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","data":{"attackComplexity":"HIGH","attackVector":"LOCAL","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","baseScore":7,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","confidentialityImpact":"HIGH","integrityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-jjp3-mq3x-295m","name":"https://github.com/electron/electron/security/advisories/GHSA-jjp3-mq3x-295m","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-34770","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-34770","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"electron","product":"electron","version":"affected < 38.8.6","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"electron","product":"electron","version":"affected >= 39.0.0-alpha.1, < 39.8.1","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"electron","product":"electron","version":"affected >= 40.0.0-alpha.1, < 40.8.0","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"electron","product":"electron","version":"affected >= 41.0.0-alpha.1, < 41.0.0-beta.8","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"34770","cve":"CVE-2026-34770","epss":"0.000150000","percentile":"0.032990000","score_date":"2026-04-07","updated_at":"2026-04-08 00:03:39"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"content":{"id":"CVE-2026-34770","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","timestamp":"2026-04-06T19:09:58.375370Z","version":"2.0.3"},"type":"ssvc"}}],"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2026-04-06T19:10:14.712Z","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP"},"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"}],"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"electron","vendor":"electron","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 38.8.6"},{"status":"affected","version":">= 39.0.0-alpha.1, < 39.8.1"},{"status":"affected","version":">= 40.0.0-alpha.1, < 40.8.0"},{"status":"affected","version":">= 41.0.0-alpha.1, < 41.0.0-beta.8"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Electron is a framework for writing cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
