Prior to versions 2.2.23, 3.1.21, and 3.2.6, Rack::Utils.get_byte_ranges parses the HTTP Range header without limiting the number of individual byte ranges. Although the existing fix for CVE-2024-26141 rejects ranges whose total byte coverage exceeds the file size, it does not restrict the count of ranges. An attacker can supply many small overlapping ranges such as 0-0,0-0,0-0,... to trigger disproportionate CPU, memory, I/O, and bandwidth consumption per request. This results in a denial of service condition in Rack file-serving paths that process multipart byte range responses. This issue has been patched in versions 2.2.23, 3.1.21, and 3.2.6.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-04-02 17:16:25","updated_at":"2026-04-03 16:10:23"},"problem_types":["CWE-400","CWE-770","CWE-400 CWE-400: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption","CWE-770 CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"5.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","baseScore":5.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"NONE","availabilityImpact":"LOW"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"5.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"LOW","baseScore":5.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"NONE","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/rack/rack/security/advisories/GHSA-x8cg-fq8g-mxfx","name":"https://github.com/rack/rack/security/advisories/GHSA-x8cg-fq8g-mxfx","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-34826","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-34826","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"rack","product":"rack","version":"affected < 2.2.23","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"rack","product":"rack","version":"affected >= 3.0.0.beta1, < 3.1.21","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"rack","product":"rack","version":"affected >= 3.2.0, < 3.2.6","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"34826","cve":"CVE-2026-34826","epss":"0.000390000","percentile":"0.115690000","score_date":"2026-04-07","updated_at":"2026-04-08 00:03:39"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"rack","vendor":"rack","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 2.2.23"},{"status":"affected","version":">= 3.0.0.beta1, < 3.1.21"},{"status":"affected","version":">= 3.2.0, < 3.2.6"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Rack is a modular Ruby web server interface.
