In versions 2.4.16 and prior, an integer underflow vulnerability in _ppdCreateFromIPP() (cups/ppd-cache.c) allows any unprivileged local user to crash the cupsd root process by supplying a negative job-password-supported IPP attribute. The bounds check only caps the upper bound, so a negative value passes validation, is cast to size_t (wrapping to ~2^64), and is used as the length argument to memset() on a 33-byte stack buffer. This causes an immediate SIGSEGV in the cupsd root process. Combined with systemd's Restart=on-failure, an attacker can repeat the crash for sustained denial of service.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-04-07 17:16:37","updated_at":"2026-04-07 17:16:37"},"problem_types":["CWE-191","CWE-191 CWE-191: Integer Underflow (Wrap or Wraparound)"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"4","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","baseScore":4,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"LOCAL","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"NONE","availabilityImpact":"LOW"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"4","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"LOCAL","availabilityImpact":"LOW","baseScore":4,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"NONE","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/security/advisories/GHSA-pp8w-2g52-7vj7","name":"https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/security/advisories/GHSA-pp8w-2g52-7vj7","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-39314","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-39314","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"OpenPrinting","product":"cups","version":"affected <= 2.4.16","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"cups","vendor":"OpenPrinting","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"<= 2.4.16"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"OpenPrinting CUPS is an open source printing system for Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.
