Starting in version 3.3.0 and prior to version 4.11.0, a resource leak exists in OP-TEE’s shared memory cleanup logic because the function `cleanup_shm_refs()` in `core/tee/entry_std.c` fails to apply a required bitmask (`OPTEE_MSG_ATTR_TYPE_MASK`) to parameter attributes. When processing non-contiguous memory parameters from a normal-world caller, the system fails to match the attribute type in its internal switch statement and skips the necessary mobj_put() call. This results in a persistent reference leak of `mobj_reg_shm` objects, which remain on internal lists with dangling refcounts. This affects non-FF-A configurations that support non-contiguous, non-secure shared memory. Over time, these accumulated leaks progressively consume the secure-world heap, degrading the system's ability to service trusted application operations and eventually requiring a reboot to recover. Version 4.11.0 contains a patch. No known workarounds are available.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-07-06 20:16:33","updated_at":"2026-07-07 18:56:18"},"problem_types":["CWE-770","CWE-770 CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"3.8","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:L","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:L","baseScore":3.8,"baseSeverity":"LOW","attackVector":"LOCAL","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"LOW","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"CHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"NONE","availabilityImpact":"LOW"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"3.8","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:L","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"LOCAL","availabilityImpact":"LOW","baseScore":3.8,"baseSeverity":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"NONE","privilegesRequired":"LOW","scope":"CHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:N/I:N/A:L","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/OP-TEE/optee_os/security/advisories/GHSA-c7j8-fgqw-rcgp","name":"https://github.com/OP-TEE/optee_os/security/advisories/GHSA-c7j8-fgqw-rcgp","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":["Vendor Advisory"],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-42546","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-42546","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"OP-TEE","product":"optee_os","version":"affected >= 3.3.0, < 4.11.0","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"42546","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"4.10.0","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"o","cpe4":"trustedfirmware","cpe5":"op-tee","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"42546","cve":"CVE-2026-42546","epss":"0.001050000","percentile":"0.012930000","score_date":"2026-07-09","updated_at":"2026-07-10 00:08:29"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"content":{"id":"CVE-2026-42546","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","timestamp":"2026-07-06T20:50:39.850245Z","version":"2.0.3"},"type":"ssvc"}}],"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2026-07-06T20:51:23.274Z","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP"},"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"}],"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"optee_os","vendor":"OP-TEE","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":">= 3.3.0, < 4.11.0"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"OP-TEE is a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) designed as companion to a non-secure Linux kernel running on Arm; Cortex-A cores using the TrustZone technology.
