Prior to 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0, a signed integer overflow in QueryRGBBufferSizeInternal() in DPXColorConverter.cpp leads to a heap-based out-of-bounds write when processing crafted DPX image files. The function computes buffer sizes using 32-bit signed integer arithmetic with negative multipliers (e.g., pixels * -3 * bytes for kCbYCr descriptors and pixels * -4 * bytes for kABGR descriptors), where a negative result is used as an in-band signal that no separate buffer is needed. When the pixel count is sufficiently large, the multiplication overflows INT_MIN and wraps to a small positive value. The caller in dpxinput.cpp interprets this positive value as a required buffer size, allocates an undersized heap buffer via m_decodebuf.resize(), and then writes the full image data into it via fread, resulting in a heap buffer overflow. An attacker can exploit this by crafting a DPX file that triggers the overflow, causing a denial of service (crash) or potentially arbitrary code execution through heap corruption in any application that reads pixel data using OpenImageIO. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.18.0 and 3.1.13.0.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-05-14 20:17:06","updated_at":"2026-05-15 19:43:22"},"problem_types":["CWE-190","CWE-787","CWE-190 CWE-190: Integer Overflow or Wraparound","CWE-787 CWE-787: Out-of-bounds Write"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"8.3","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:H","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:H","baseScore":8.3,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"HIGH","availabilityImpact":"HIGH"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"8.3","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:H","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"HIGH","baseScore":8.3,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:H","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/security/advisories/GHSA-cq46-hp4h-cvfr","name":"https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/security/advisories/GHSA-cq46-hp4h-cvfr","refsource":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","tags":["Exploit","Vendor Advisory"],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-43907","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-43907","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"AcademySoftwareFoundation","product":"OpenImageIO","version":"affected < 3.0.18.0","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"AcademySoftwareFoundation","product":"OpenImageIO","version":"affected >= 3.1.4.0-beta, < 3.1.13.0","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"43907","vulnerable":"1","versionEndIncluding":"","cpe1":"cpe","cpe2":"2.3","cpe3":"a","cpe4":"openimageio","cpe5":"openimageio","cpe6":"*","cpe7":"*","cpe8":"*","cpe9":"*","cpe10":"*","cpe11":"*","cpe12":"*","cpe13":"*"}],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"43907","cve":"CVE-2026-43907","epss":"0.000720000","percentile":"0.217790000","score_date":"2026-05-25","updated_at":"2026-05-26 00:10:59"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"content":{"id":"CVE-2026-43907","options":[{"Exploitation":"poc"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"total"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","timestamp":"2026-05-14T19:49:04.586037Z","version":"2.0.3"},"type":"ssvc"}}],"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2026-05-14T19:49:08.595Z","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP"},"references":[{"tags":["exploit"],"url":"https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenImageIO/security/advisories/GHSA-cq46-hp4h-cvfr"}],"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"}],"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"OpenImageIO","vendor":"AcademySoftwareFoundation","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 3.0.18.0"},{"status":"affected","version":">= 3.1.4.0-beta, < 3.1.13.0"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"OpenImageIO is a toolset for reading, writing, and manipulating image files of any image file format relevant to VFX / animation.
