Prior to 1.35.4, there is a security vulnerability in Vaultwarden that allows bypassing the login brute-force protection if email 2fa is enabled. If email 2fa is enabled, the unprotected 2fa-function send_email_login (email.rs, api endpoint /api/two-factor/send-email-login) also acts as an oracle determining whether a username-password combination is correct. An attacker can abuse that endpoint to brute-force passwords without rate-limiting. This works even for users who don't have email 2fa configured. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.35.4.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-05-11 23:20:22","updated_at":"2026-05-11 23:20:22"},"problem_types":["CWE-307","CWE-307 CWE-307: Improper Restriction of Excessive Authentication Attempts"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"7.3","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L","baseScore":7.3,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"LOW"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"7.3","severity":"HIGH","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"LOW","baseScore":7.3,"baseSeverity":"HIGH","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden/security/advisories/GHSA-c5rv-q295-7w4g","name":"https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden/security/advisories/GHSA-c5rv-q295-7w4g","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden/releases/tag/1.35.4","name":"https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden/releases/tag/1.35.4","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden/pull/6867","name":"https://github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden/pull/6867","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-43914","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-43914","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"dani-garcia","product":"vaultwarden","version":"affected < 1.35.4","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"vaultwarden","vendor":"dani-garcia","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 1.35.4"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Vaultwarden is a Bitwarden-compatible server written in Rust.
