Prior to version 1.30.0, the mailpit dump --http <base-url> <out-dir> sub-command downloads every message from a remote Mailpit instance and writes each one as <id>.eml inside the user-supplied output directory. The message ID field is taken verbatim from the JSON response of the remote server and concatenated into the output path with path.Join, which silently normalizes `..` segments. A malicious HTTP server impersonating Mailpit can therefore make mailpit dump write attacker-controlled bytes to any path the running user can write, fully outside the intended output directory. Version 1.30.0 contains a patch.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-07-20 16:17:00","updated_at":"2026-07-20 16:17:00"},"problem_types":["CWE-22","CWE-829","CWE-22 CWE-22: Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')","CWE-829 CWE-829: Inclusion of Functionality from Untrusted Control Sphere"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"5.9","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","baseScore":5.9,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"HIGH","availabilityImpact":"LOW"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"5.9","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","data":{"attackComplexity":"HIGH","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"LOW","baseScore":5.9,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/axllent/mailpit/releases/tag/v1.30.0","name":"https://github.com/axllent/mailpit/releases/tag/v1.30.0","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/axllent/mailpit/security/advisories/GHSA-qx5x-85p8-vg4j","name":"https://github.com/axllent/mailpit/security/advisories/GHSA-qx5x-85p8-vg4j","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-45711","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-45711","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"axllent","product":"mailpit","version":"affected < 1.30.0","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"mailpit","vendor":"axllent","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 1.30.0"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Mailpit is an email testing tool and API for developers.
