Prior to versions 8.6.79 and 9.9.1-alpha.4, the default file upload extension blocklist can be bypassed by appending a trailing dot to a filename whose extension would otherwise be blocked (e.g. poc.svg.). The trailing dot causes the extension parser to extract an empty string, which short-circuits the blocklist check, and the attacker-controlled Content-Type is forwarded to the storage adapter unchanged. Storage adapters that persist and serve the provided Content-Type (such as S3 or GCS) then serve the file with an active type such as image/svg+xml, enabling stored XSS when a victim opens the file URL. The default GridFS adapter is not affected because it sets X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff on responses. This issue has been patched in versions 8.6.79 and 9.9.1-alpha.4.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-06-12 19:16:30","updated_at":"2026-06-12 19:16:30"},"problem_types":["CWE-79","CWE-434","CWE-434 CWE-434: Unrestricted Upload of File with Dangerous Type","CWE-79 CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')"],"metrics":[{"version":"4.0","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"2.1","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N/E:X/CR:X/IR:X/AR:X/MAV:X/MAC:X/MAT:X/MPR:X/MUI:X/MVC:X/MVI:X/MVA:X/MSC:X/MSI:X/MSA:X/S:X/AU:X/R:X/V:X/RE:X/U:X","data":{"version":"4.0","vectorString":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N/E:X/CR:X/IR:X/AR:X/MAV:X/MAC:X/MAT:X/MPR:X/MUI:X/MVC:X/MVI:X/MVA:X/MSC:X/MSI:X/MSA:X/S:X/AU:X/R:X/V:X/RE:X/U:X","baseScore":2.1,"baseSeverity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","attackRequirements":"PRESENT","privilegesRequired":"LOW","userInteraction":"PASSIVE","vulnConfidentialityImpact":"NONE","vulnIntegrityImpact":"LOW","vulnAvailabilityImpact":"NONE","subConfidentialityImpact":"LOW","subIntegrityImpact":"LOW","subAvailabilityImpact":"NONE","exploitMaturity":"NOT_DEFINED","confidentialityRequirement":"NOT_DEFINED","integrityRequirement":"NOT_DEFINED","availabilityRequirement":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedAttackVector":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedAttackComplexity":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedAttackRequirements":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedPrivilegesRequired":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedUserInteraction":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedVulnConfidentialityImpact":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedVulnIntegrityImpact":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedVulnAvailabilityImpact":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedSubConfidentialityImpact":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedSubIntegrityImpact":"NOT_DEFINED","modifiedSubAvailabilityImpact":"NOT_DEFINED","Safety":"NOT_DEFINED","Automatable":"NOT_DEFINED","Recovery":"NOT_DEFINED","valueDensity":"NOT_DEFINED","vulnerabilityResponseEffort":"NOT_DEFINED","providerUrgency":"NOT_DEFINED"}},{"version":"4.0","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"2.1","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackRequirements":"PRESENT","attackVector":"NETWORK","baseScore":2.1,"baseSeverity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"LOW","subAvailabilityImpact":"NONE","subConfidentialityImpact":"LOW","subIntegrityImpact":"LOW","userInteraction":"PASSIVE","vectorString":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:L/SA:N","version":"4.0","vulnAvailabilityImpact":"NONE","vulnConfidentialityImpact":"NONE","vulnIntegrityImpact":"LOW"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/pull/10490","name":"https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/pull/10490","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/pull/10489","name":"https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/pull/10489","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/security/advisories/GHSA-7wqv-xjf3-x35v","name":"https://github.com/parse-community/parse-server/security/advisories/GHSA-7wqv-xjf3-x35v","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-53724","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-53724","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"parse-community","product":"parse-server","version":"affected < 8.6.79","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"parse-community","product":"parse-server","version":"affected >= 9.0.0, < 9.9.1-alpha.4","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"53724","cve":"CVE-2026-53724","epss":"0.000470000","percentile":"0.150310000","score_date":"2026-06-12","updated_at":"2026-06-13 00:07:15"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"parse-server","vendor":"parse-community","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 8.6.79"},{"status":"affected","version":">= 9.0.0, < 9.9.1-alpha.4"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Parse Server is an open source backend that can be deployed to any infrastructure that can run Node.js.
