This is due to a missing authorization check in the tutor_update_course_content_order() function. The function only validates the nonce (CSRF protection) but does not verify whether the user has permission to manage course content. The can_user_manage() authorization check only executes when the 'content_parent' parameter is present in the request. When this parameter is omitted, the function proceeds directly to save_course_content_order() which manipulates the wp_posts table without any authorization validation. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with subscriber-level access and above to detach all lessons from any topic, move lessons between topics, and modify the menu_order of course content, effectively allowing them to disrupt the structure of any course on the site.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"Wordfence","published_at":"2026-04-17 05:16:19","updated_at":"2026-04-17 05:16:19"},"problem_types":["CWE-862","CWE-862 CWE-862 Missing Authorization"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security@wordfence.com","type":"Primary","score":"5.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","baseScore":5.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"5.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"baseScore":5.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/trunk/classes/Course.php#L1789","name":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/trunk/classes/Course.php#L1789","refsource":"security@wordfence.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/f32ae42d-dd1f-41d7-8ae4-ddec56d78ae6?source=cve","name":"https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/f32ae42d-dd1f-41d7-8ae4-ddec56d78ae6?source=cve","refsource":"security@wordfence.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/tags/3.9.7/classes/Course.php#L1700","name":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/tags/3.9.7/classes/Course.php#L1700","refsource":"security@wordfence.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3505142/tutor/tags/3.9.9/classes/Course.php","name":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3505142/tutor/tags/3.9.9/classes/Course.php","refsource":"security@wordfence.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/trunk/classes/Course.php#L1700","name":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/trunk/classes/Course.php#L1700","refsource":"security@wordfence.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/tags/3.9.7/classes/Course.php#L1789","name":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tutor/tags/3.9.7/classes/Course.php#L1789","refsource":"security@wordfence.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-5502","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-5502","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"themeum","product":"Tutor LMS – eLearning and online course solution","version":"affected 3.9.8 semver","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[{"source":"CNA","time":"2026-04-03T16:04:07.000Z","lang":"en","value":"Vendor Notified"},{"source":"CNA","time":"2026-04-16T15:10:34.000Z","lang":"en","value":"Disclosed"}],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[{"source":"CNA","value":"momopon1415","lang":"en"}],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"5502","cve":"CVE-2026-5502","epss":"0.000110000","percentile":"0.012930000","score_date":"2026-04-18","updated_at":"2026-04-19 00:10:44"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"defaultStatus":"unaffected","product":"Tutor LMS – eLearning and online course solution","vendor":"themeum","versions":[{"lessThanOrEqual":"3.9.8","status":"affected","version":"0","versionType":"semver"}]}],"credits":[{"lang":"en","type":"finder","value":"momopon1415"}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"The Tutor LMS – eLearning and online course solution plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized course content manipulation in versions up to and including 3.9.8.
