Prior to 2.0.5, AttachmentViewer.setAttachment in js/privatebin.js uses getAttachmentMimeType to accept attacker-controlled MIME types and uses getBlobUrl to create a same-origin blob before setting attachmentLink's href for the Download attachment link. The SVG-only sanitization branch updates only the preview blob, so text/html, image/svg, application/xhtml+xml, and text/xml attachments can remain active in the download blob. On an instance with fileupload = true and a weakened, stripped, or absent Content Security Policy, an anonymous attacker can create such an attachment, and a victim who opens the link in a new tab causes inline JavaScript to execute in the PrivateBin origin. The script can read origin-scoped local storage and issue same-origin requests, including requests to applications co-hosted on the same domain. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.5.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-08-28 22:16:51","updated_at":"2026-08-28 22:16:51"},"problem_types":["CWE-79","CWE-80","CWE-79 CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')","CWE-80 CWE-80: Improper Neutralization of Script-Related HTML Tags in a Web Page (Basic XSS)"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"4.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","baseScore":4.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"NONE","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"4.3","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"NONE","baseScore":4.3,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"NONE","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/PrivateBin/PrivateBin/releases/tag/2.0.5","name":"https://github.com/PrivateBin/PrivateBin/releases/tag/2.0.5","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/PrivateBin/PrivateBin/security/advisories/GHSA-f2xf-7x3g-4272","name":"https://github.com/PrivateBin/PrivateBin/security/advisories/GHSA-f2xf-7x3g-4272","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/PrivateBin/PrivateBin/commit/7f1f40853efe0eb12db9cc4a30ea8524ac00f423","name":"https://github.com/PrivateBin/PrivateBin/commit/7f1f40853efe0eb12db9cc4a30ea8524ac00f423","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-55696","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-55696","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"PrivateBin","product":"PrivateBin","version":"affected < 2.0.5","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"PrivateBin","vendor":"PrivateBin","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 2.0.5"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"PrivateBin is an online pastebin where the server has zero knowledge of pasted data.
