Prior to version 5.0.0, the partial-pipeline resume mechanism accepted `partial_token` as a bearer credential without binding it to the browser session that created it. Applications using resumable partial pipeline steps could allow an attacker to start an authentication flow, obtain a valid partial token and verification data, and cause a victim's browser to resume that attacker-controlled flow. This could authenticate the victim's browser as the attacker's account. The issue affects applications using partial pipeline steps such as `mail_validation` or custom steps decorated with `@partial`. The issue has been fixed in version 5.0.0 by binding partial pipeline resumes to the originating browser session.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-09-24 18:17:15","updated_at":"2026-09-30 17:23:08"},"problem_types":["CWE-384","CWE-384 CWE-384: Session Fixation"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"4.2","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","baseScore":4.2,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"4.2","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"HIGH","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"NONE","baseScore":4.2,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/python-social-auth/social-core/security/advisories/GHSA-vqg6-3fw6-j9jg","name":"https://github.com/python-social-auth/social-core/security/advisories/GHSA-vqg6-3fw6-j9jg","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-57179","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-57179","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"python-social-auth","product":"social-core","version":"affected < 5.0.0","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":{"cve_year":"2026","cve_id":"57179","cve":"CVE-2026-57179","epss":"0.001580000","percentile":"0.045570000","score_date":"2026-10-21","updated_at":"2026-10-22 00:15:12"},"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"adp":[{"metrics":[{"other":{"content":{"id":"CVE-2026-57179","options":[{"Exploitation":"none"},{"Automatable":"no"},{"Technical Impact":"partial"}],"role":"CISA Coordinator","timestamp":"2026-09-24T18:10:50.898479Z","version":"2.0.3"},"type":"ssvc"}}],"providerMetadata":{"dateUpdated":"2026-09-24T18:11:46.002Z","orgId":"134c704f-9b21-4f2e-91b3-4a467353bcc0","shortName":"CISA-ADP"},"title":"CISA ADP Vulnrichment"}],"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"social-core","vendor":"python-social-auth","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 5.0.0"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Python Social Auth is a social authentication/registration mechanism.
