Prior to 1.10.4, the Dynamic Client Registration (DCR) endpoint persists client-supplied scopes without validating them against the server's configured scope set. Under certain conditions, this allows a self-registered client to obtain scopes beyond what the server intended to grant. In DynamicClientRegistrationController#application_params, the scopes attribute is assigned directly from params[:scope] with no validation against Doorkeeper.configuration.scopes or optional_scopes. Combined with enforce_configured_scopes being off by default and Doorkeeper's ScopeChecker prioritizing application-level scopes over server-level scopes, this creates a privilege escalation path. This issue is fixed in version 1.10.4.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-08-25 23:17:58","updated_at":"2026-08-25 23:17:58"},"problem_types":["CWE-285","CWE-285 CWE-285: Improper Authorization"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"4.2","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","baseScore":4.2,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"4.2","severity":"MEDIUM","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"HIGH","attackVector":"NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"NONE","baseScore":4.2,"baseSeverity":"MEDIUM","confidentialityImpact":"LOW","integrityImpact":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"REQUIRED","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/doorkeeper-gem/doorkeeper-openid_connect/security/advisories/GHSA-8r7r-wh7x-27ff","name":"https://github.com/doorkeeper-gem/doorkeeper-openid_connect/security/advisories/GHSA-8r7r-wh7x-27ff","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/doorkeeper-gem/doorkeeper-openid_connect/commit/24c3cb1729b69f48649a6f4491dcae69f805000d","name":"https://github.com/doorkeeper-gem/doorkeeper-openid_connect/commit/24c3cb1729b69f48649a6f4491dcae69f805000d","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-70665","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-70665","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"doorkeeper-gem","product":"doorkeeper-openid_connect","version":"affected < 1.10.4","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"doorkeeper-openid_connect","vendor":"doorkeeper-gem","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 1.10.4"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Doorkeeper OpenID Connect implements an OpenID Connect authentication provider for Rails applications on top of Doorkeeper.
