When an application uses an asynchronous fileFilter together with the fileSize limit, a race condition in multer's file stream handling can allow a file that exceeds the configured size limit to bypass the size-limit rejection. All versions before 2.3.0 are affected. The impact is limited because the underlying multipart parser still truncates the stream at the size limit, so this is a bypass of the limit rejection rather than uncontrolled resource consumption. The issue is fixed in multer 2.3.0. Upgrade to multer 2.3.0 to remediate.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"openjs","published_at":"2026-08-28 22:16:53","updated_at":"2026-08-28 22:16:53"},"problem_types":["CWE-362","CWE-362 CWE-362: Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","type":"Secondary","score":"3.7","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","baseScore":3.7,"baseSeverity":"LOW","attackVector":"NETWORK","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"CVSS","score":"3.7","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"baseScore":3.7,"baseSeverity":"LOW","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","name":"https://cna.openjsf.org/security-advisories.html","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/expressjs/multer/security/advisories/GHSA-qvfw-j98x-7q72","name":"https://github.com/expressjs/multer/security/advisories/GHSA-qvfw-j98x-7q72","refsource":"ce714d77-add3-4f53-aff5-83d477b104bb","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-77063","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-77063","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"multer","product":"multer","version":"affected 2.3.0 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"multer","product":"multer","version":"unaffected 2.3.0 semver","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[{"source":"CNA","value":"ThinkerHao","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"bjohansebas","lang":"en"},{"source":"CNA","value":"UlisesGascon","lang":"en"}],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"defaultStatus":"unaffected","packageURL":"pkg:npm/multer","product":"multer","vendor":"multer","versions":[{"lessThan":"2.3.0","status":"affected","version":"0","versionType":"semver"},{"status":"unaffected","version":"2.3.0","versionType":"semver"}]}],"credits":[{"lang":"en","type":"reporter","value":"ThinkerHao"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation developer","value":"bjohansebas"},{"lang":"en","type":"remediation reviewer","value":"UlisesGascon"}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","supportingMedia":[{"base64":false,"type":"text/html","value":"multer is a middleware for handling multipart/form-data in Node.js.
