Prior to 26.10.0rc1, twisted.names.dns.DNSDatagramProtocol accepts a UDP DNS response for a pending query when its 16-bit transaction ID matches but does not verify that the response came from the queried host and port. An attacker able to deliver a packet to the resolver's listening port with the correct transaction ID can inject a forged answer. The standard twisted.names.client.Resolver uses a new random source port for each query, increasing off-path attack complexity, while applications that reuse a DNSDatagramProtocol instance expose only the transaction-ID search space after the first query. A successful forgery can redirect hostname resolution and enable mail interception, server-side request forgery, or man-in-the-middle positioning. This issue is fixed in version 26.10.0rc1.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"GitHub_M","published_at":"2026-10-23 21:17:25","updated_at":"2026-10-23 21:17:25"},"problem_types":["CWE-346","CWE-346 CWE-346: Origin Validation Error"],"metrics":[{"version":"3.1","source":"security-advisories@github.com","type":"Secondary","score":"3.1","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"version":"3.1","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","baseScore":3.1,"baseSeverity":"LOW","attackVector":"ADJACENT_NETWORK","attackComplexity":"HIGH","privilegesRequired":"NONE","userInteraction":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","availabilityImpact":"NONE"}},{"version":"3.1","source":"CNA","type":"DECLARED","score":"3.1","severity":"LOW","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","data":{"attackComplexity":"HIGH","attackVector":"ADJACENT_NETWORK","availabilityImpact":"NONE","baseScore":3.1,"baseSeverity":"LOW","confidentialityImpact":"NONE","integrityImpact":"LOW","privilegesRequired":"NONE","scope":"UNCHANGED","userInteraction":"NONE","vectorString":"CVSS:3.1/AV:A/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","version":"3.1"}}],"references":[{"url":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/releases/tag/twisted-26.10.0rc1","name":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/releases/tag/twisted-26.10.0rc1","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/commit/b53e1c3477c209b5609a1c74cf9e48373b5879ac","name":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/commit/b53e1c3477c209b5609a1c74cf9e48373b5879ac","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/security/advisories/GHSA-jj36-9pvh-vj5r","name":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/security/advisories/GHSA-jj36-9pvh-vj5r","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/pull/12700","name":"https://github.com/twisted/twisted/pull/12700","refsource":"security-advisories@github.com","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-83813","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-83813","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"twisted","product":"twisted","version":"affected < 26.7.0rc1","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"product":"twisted","vendor":"twisted","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"< 26.7.0rc1"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"Twisted is an event-based framework for internet applications, supporting Python 3.6+.
