Without that\ncallback tb_dp_dprx_start() reads the capabilities synchronously and\nnever queues the work. It however always takes a tunnel reference which\nis only dropped by dprx_work itself or by tb_dp_dprx_stop() when\ncancel_delayed_work() actually canceled that work. That reference is\nthus leaked for every tunnel without a callback.\n\nThe only tunnels without one are those from tb_tunnel_discover_dp(),\nwhich are activated again when restoring from hibernation.\nPass the callback to tb_tunnel_discover_dp() as well and drop the\nsynchronous path such that the DPRX capabilities are always read from\ndprx_work. Hibernation restore then also no longer blocks for up to 12\nseconds while waiting for that read to complete.\n\nAlso fix up the KUnit tests.","state":"PUBLISHED","assigner":"Linux","published_at":"2026-10-18 16:17:22","updated_at":"2026-10-19 10:19:33"},"problem_types":[],"metrics":[],"references":[{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/12f5d8b85a66a0ac08d082517d92ce136f8c0d42","name":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/12f5d8b85a66a0ac08d082517d92ce136f8c0d42","refsource":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/47d60ea801fc333a10c576691eca2e7840b02d3d","name":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/47d60ea801fc333a10c576691eca2e7840b02d3d","refsource":"416baaa9-dc9f-4396-8d5f-8c081fb06d67","tags":[],"title":"","mime":"","httpstatus":"","archivestatus":"0"},{"url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-98692","name":"CVE Program record","refsource":"CVE.ORG","tags":["canonical"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-98692","name":"NVD vulnerability detail","refsource":"NVD","tags":["canonical","analysis"]}],"affected":[{"source":"CNA","vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","version":"affected d6d458d42e1e1544a18f37f1d5c840e00d5261b9 47d60ea801fc333a10c576691eca2e7840b02d3d git","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","version":"affected d6d458d42e1e1544a18f37f1d5c840e00d5261b9 12f5d8b85a66a0ac08d082517d92ce136f8c0d42 git","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","version":"affected 6.14","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","version":"unaffected 6.14 semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","version":"unaffected 7.2.10 7.2.* semver","platforms":[]},{"source":"CNA","vendor":"Linux","product":"Linux","version":"unaffected 7.3 * original_commit_for_fix","platforms":[]}],"timeline":[],"solutions":[],"workarounds":[],"exploits":[],"credits":[],"nvd_cpes":[],"vendor_comments":[],"enrichments":{"kev":null,"epss":null,"legacy_qids":[]},"source_records":{"cve_program":{"containers":{"cna":{"affected":[{"defaultStatus":"unaffected","product":"Linux","programFiles":["drivers/thunderbolt/tb.c","drivers/thunderbolt/test.c","drivers/thunderbolt/tunnel.c","drivers/thunderbolt/tunnel.h"],"repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","vendor":"Linux","versions":[{"lessThan":"47d60ea801fc333a10c576691eca2e7840b02d3d","status":"affected","version":"d6d458d42e1e1544a18f37f1d5c840e00d5261b9","versionType":"git"},{"lessThan":"12f5d8b85a66a0ac08d082517d92ce136f8c0d42","status":"affected","version":"d6d458d42e1e1544a18f37f1d5c840e00d5261b9","versionType":"git"}]},{"defaultStatus":"affected","product":"Linux","programFiles":["drivers/thunderbolt/tb.c","drivers/thunderbolt/test.c","drivers/thunderbolt/tunnel.c","drivers/thunderbolt/tunnel.h"],"repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","vendor":"Linux","versions":[{"status":"affected","version":"6.14"},{"lessThan":"6.14","status":"unaffected","version":"0","versionType":"semver"},{"lessThanOrEqual":"7.2.*","status":"unaffected","version":"7.2.10","versionType":"semver"},{"lessThanOrEqual":"*","status":"unaffected","version":"7.3","versionType":"original_commit_for_fix"}]}],"cpeApplicability":[{"nodes":[{"cpeMatch":[{"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionEndExcluding":"7.2.10","versionStartIncluding":"6.14","vulnerable":true},{"criteria":"cpe:2.3:o:linux:linux_kernel:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*","versionEndExcluding":"7.3","versionStartIncluding":"6.14","vulnerable":true}],"negate":false,"operator":"OR"}]}],"descriptions":[{"lang":"en","value":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nthunderbolt: Make the DP tunnel activation callback mandatory\n\ntb_tunnel_alloc_dp() takes an optional callback which is run from\ndprx_work once the DPRX capabilities read has completed.
