Discussion

Xelerance Corporation Openswan XAUTH/PAM Remote Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

A remote buffer overflow vulnerability reportedly affects Xelerance Corporation Openswan. This issue is due to a failure of the application to properly validate the length of user-supplied strings prior to copying them into finite process buffers.

It should be noted that Openswan is only affected by this issue when it is compiled with XAUTH and PAM support, which is not the default configuration.

An attacker may leverage this issue to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the affected application; this may facilitate unauthorized access or privilege escalation.
