PowerDNS is reported prone to an unspecified remote denial of service vulnerability. It is conjectured that this issue likely results from the failure of the application to handle exceptional conditions.

PowerDNS versions prior to 2.9.17 are reported vulnerable to this issue.

Solution:
The vendor has released PowerDNS 2.9.17 to address this issue.

Gentoo Linux has released advisory GLSA 200502-15 dealing with this issue. Gentoo advises that all PowerDNS users should upgrade to the latest version:

# emerge --sync
# emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=net-dns/pdns-2.9.17"
