Discussion

Interbase SuperServer Denial of Service Vulnerability

Interbase is an open sourced relational database offered by Borland Inprise Corporation. It has been reported to Bugtraq that it is possible to crash the server on Linux platforms (this vulnerability is probably not specific to linux though) by passing it a query of 0 bytes. The process terminates due to a segfault, indicating that the problem may be related to not checking memory reference validity. This bug is considered local because an authenticated connection to the server must be made before queries can be sent. Exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to a denial of service.
