Microsoft WebViewFolderIcon ActiveX Control Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Microsoft WebViewFolderIcon ActiveX control is prone to a buffer-overflow vulnerability.

This issue is triggered when an attacker convinces a victim user to visit a malicious website.

Remote attackers may exploit this issue to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the affected application, facilitating the remote compromise of affected computers. Failed exploit attempts likely result in browser crashes.

Solution:
Microsoft has released security advisory MS06-057 to address this issue in supported versions of affected applications.

Unofficial fixes are available from Determina Security Research and from ZERT. Symantec has not confirmed the integrity of these fixes.
