Discussion

PHP 'proc_open()' 'safe_mode_protected_env_var' Restriction-Bypass Vulnerability

PHP is prone to a safe_mode restriction-bypass vulnerability.

Successfully exploiting this issue may allow attackers to alter the process environment, which may lead to other attacks.

Versions prior to PHP 5.3.1 are vulnerable.

NOTE (November 27, 2009): This issue may be related to the vulnerability discussed in BID 32717 (PHP 'proc_open()' Environment Parameter Safe Mode Restriction-Bypass Vulnerability). We will either update or retire this BID pending further information.
