Discussion

Apple iOS and Mac OS X URI Stack Based Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Apple iOS and Mac OS X are prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability because they fail to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer.

An attacker could exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of an affected application. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions.

NOTE: This issue was previously covered in BID 41016 (Apple iPhone/iPod touch Prior to iOS 4 Multiple Vulnerabilities) but has been given its own record to better document it.
