Discussion

Open Text FirstClass Client 'FCP://' URI and DLL Loading Arbitrary Code Execution Vulnerabilities

Open Text FirstClass Client is prone to multiple arbitrary-code-execution vulnerabilities, including a 'FCP://' URI-handling issue and a DLL-loading issue.

An attacker can exploit the 'FCP://' URI issue by enticing an unsuspecting user to follow a malicious URI.

An attacker can exploit the DLL loading issue by enticing a legitimate user to use the vulnerable application to open a file from a network share location that contains a specially crafted Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file.

FirstClass Client 11.005 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.

Exploit / POC

For the DLL loading issue, a general exploit technique has been documented by TheLeader and H.D. Moore for the Metasploit Project; please see the references for more information. For the 'FCP://' URI issue, an attacker must entice an unsuspecting user into following a malicious URI.
