SGI IRIX rpc.passwd Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

SGI has reported that the NIS password server, 'rpc.passwd', is vulnerable to a remotely exploitable flaw. Exploitation of this vulnerability may grant remote attackers root access on affected systems. The technical nature of the vulnerability is not currently known.

Solution:
This vulnerability is not present in SGI IRIX 6.5.16.

The available fixes have been reported as causing problems with the /tmp directory in some installations.
