Discussion

Advantech WebAccess CVE-2014-8388 Stack Based Buffer Overflow Vulnerability

Advantech WebAccess is prone to a stack-based buffer-overflow vulnerability within the ActiveX control because the application fails to properly bounds-check user-supplied data before copying it into an insufficiently sized buffer.

Attackers can exploit this issue to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application (typically Internet Explorer) using the ActiveX control. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions.

Advantech WebAccess 7.2 is vulnerable; other versions may also be affected.
