Multiple Gnocatan Server Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities

The Gnocatan game server is prone to multiple remotely exploitable buffer overflow vulnerabilities. These conditions could potentially be exploited to execute malicious code in the context of the server or to launch denial of service attacks.

Solution:
Debian has released an advisory (DSA 315-1) that addresses this issue. Please see the attached advisory for details on obtaining and applying fixes.

It is not known if the Gnocatan vendor has released a fixed version.

Gentoo Linux has released an advisory. Users who have installed app-games/gnocatan are advised to upgrade to gnocatan-0.7.1-r3 by issuing the following commands:

emerge sync
emerge gnocatan
emerge clean
