Microsoft RPCSS DCOM Interface Long Filename Heap Corruption Vulnerability

Microsoft has reported a remotely exploitable heap corruption vulnerability in RPC. This issue exists in the RPCSS Service and is related to code that handles RPC messages for DCOM activation, specifically in the filename parameter. This issue could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges.

Microsoft RPCSS DCOM Interface Long Filename Heap Corruption Vulnerability

An exploit, and a Linux port of the same exploit have been made available. A new exploit has also been released that contains universal offsets for Win2k and WinXP operating systems.

Several sources have stated that the MS-DCOM-Uni.c exploit affects patched Windows XP systems. This is covered further in BID 8811.
