Linux Kernel Concurrent Threaded Function Calls Local Denial of Service Vulnerability

A local denial of service vulnerability has been discovered in the Linux kernel, the issue is triggered when specific events occur concurrently. The precise technical details regarding this issue are currently unknown, however it has been reported that a fork() procedure carried out concurrently with a threaded exit() call, may cause the kernel to panic.

Linux Kernel Concurrent Threaded Function Calls Local Denial of Service Vulnerability

Solution:
It should be noted that Fedora Linux has stated that their Core 1 release shipped with the vulnerable kernel. Therefore, it is currently believed that this issue was present in the 2.4.22 and although it has not yet been confirmed, it is speculated that the issue has been addressed in 2.4.23. As a safety precaution, it is recommended that all users upgrade to the latest kernel release possible.

Fedora Linux has released a security advisory containing fixes to address this issue. Users are advised to see the referenced advisory for further details on how to obtain and apply fixes.
