Discussion
MS Site Server Commerce Edition Input Validation Vulnerability
Two sample web applications that ship with Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition and the code generated by an included Site Wizard do not properly validate user input before passing it to an SQL query. Therefore, an attacker could create their own SQL commands and submit them to the database through these input fields, giving them the ability to read, modify, create and delete database entries.
This is not a vulnerability in Site Server itself. The problem lies in the code included in the sample web applications and generated by the Site Wizard. Users who have removed the sample websites and who have not used the Site Wizard, and who have followed secure coding practices in the creation of their web applications will not be susceptible to this vulnerability.
