QID 150472: Apache Tomcat Privilege Escalation Vulnerability (CVE-2022-23181)

Apache Tomcat is an open source web server and servlet container developed by the Apache Software Foundation.

The fix for bug CVE-2020-9484 introduced a time of check, time of use vulnerability into Apache Tomcat that allowed a local attacker to perform actions with the privileges of the user that the Tomcat process is using. This issue is only exploitable when Tomcat is configured to persist sessions using the FileStore.

QID Detection Logic (Unauthenticated):
This QID sends a HTTP GET request to a invalid URL and based on the response confirms the vulnerable instance of Apache Tomcat running on the host.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker to perform malicious actions with elevated privileges.
