QID 150592: Zabbix Reflected Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability (CVE-2022-35230)

Zabbix is an open-source software tool to monitor IT infrastructure such as networks, servers, virtual machines, and cloud services.

An authenticated user can create a link with reflected Javascript code inside it for the graphs page and send it to other users. The payload can be executed only with a known CSRF token value of the victim, which is changed periodically and is difficult to predict.

Affected version:
before version 5.0.25

QID Detection Logic (Unauthenticated):
This QID sends a HTTP POST request to "api_jsonrpc.php" endpoint and checks the response body to confirm if the host is running vulnerable version of Zabbix Server.

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript code in the context of the interface or allow the attacker to access sensitive, browser-based information.

  • CVSS V3 rated as Medium - 5.4 severity.
