QID 150648: dotCMS Denial of Service (DoS) Vulnerability (CVE-2022-37034)

dotCMS is an open source content management system written in Java for managing content and content driven sites and applications.

It is possible to repeatedly invoke the TempFileResource, causing the dotCMS server to download a large file each time. If performed frequently enough, this will result in the exhaustion of the Tomcat Request Thread pool, leading to denial of service for all other requests.

Affected versions:
dotCMS versions from 5.2.0 to 22.10

QID Detection Logic (Unauthenticated):
This QID performs a HTTP GET request to the "/api/v1/appconfiguration" endpoint and examines the response body to determine if the host is running a vulnerable version of the dotCMS Server.

Successful exploitation of the vulnerability can allow an attacker to trigger a DoS.

CVSS V3 rated as Medium - 5.3 severity.

CVSS V2 rated as Medium - 5 severity.

Solution
