QID 150868: WordPress LayerSlider Plugin: Unauthenticated SQL Injection Vulnerability (CVE-2024-2879)

LayerSlider is a premium multi-purpose slider for creating image galleries, content sliders, and slideshows.

The LayerSlider plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to SQL Injection via the ls_get_popup_markup action due to insufficient escaping on the user supplied parameter and lack of sufficient preparation on the existing SQL query. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to append additional SQL queries into already existing queries that can be used to extract sensitive information from the database.

Affected Versions:
WordPress LayerSlider Plugin 7.9.11 - 7.10.0

QID Detection Logic:
This QID sends a HTTP GET request and checks for vulnerable version of WordPress plugin running on the target application.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary SQL queries on the target system.

CVSS V2 rated as High - 7.8 severity.

Solution
