QID 317317: Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software Denial of Service (DoS) Vulnerability (cisco-sa-asaftdios-dhcpv6-cli-Zf3zTv)

A vulnerability in the IPv6 DHCP (DHCPv6) client module of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on an affected device.

Affected Versions
From 9.8.1 Prior to 9.8.4.46
From 9.9.1 Prior to 9.12.4.38
From 9.13.1 Prior to 9.14.4.23
From 9.15.1 Prior to 9.16.2.13
From 9.17.1 Prior to 9.17.1.7
Note: On devices that are running Cisco IOS or IOS XE Software, also look for the ipv6 unicast-routing command in global configuration mode. If this command is missing, the devices are not processing any IPv6 traffic and are not affected, even if they have IPv6 and the DHCPv6 client feature enabled under any interface.

QID Detection Logic (Authenticated):
The check matches Cisco ASA OS version retrieved via Unix Auth using "version" command.

A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.

  • CVSS V3 rated as Medium - 5.9 severity.
