QID 376212: VideoLAN VLC Media player Multiple Vulnerabilities (VideoLAN-SA-1003)

VLC is an open source, cross-platform media player that supports media streaming.

Affected Versions:
VLC media player 1.0.6 and earlier

QID Detection Logic:
It checks for vulnerable versions of VLC media player installed on MAC and Windows platform.

If successful, a malicious third party could crash the player instance or perhaps execute arbitrary code within the context of VLC media player.

CVSS V3 rated as Critical - 10 severity.

CVSS V2 rated as High - 7.5 severity.

Solution

The vendor has confirmed the vulnerability and released VLC media player version 1.0.6 to resolve this issue. Download the latest version of vlc from here
