QID 376807: Qualys Cloud Agent for Linux Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

Researchers have discovered a potential Privilege Escalation issue in Qualys Cloud Agent for Linux. The privilege escalation is possible when Qualys Cloud Agent is configured to run as root. Qualys Cloud Agent does not check the integrity of the executables and will not know if the executable is malicious, it will effectively allow an attacker with access to an unprivileged account on the host to gain root privileges.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows an attacker with access to an unprivileged account on the host to gain root privileges.

  • Solution
    No action is required by customers. Qualys released signature updates with manifest version 2.5.548.2 to address this issue and has rolled the updates out platform wide.
